You may remember our recent Fall Life Hacks article with tips for cleaning up those messy piles of leaves posted by that genius man, the CrazyRussianHacker on his YouTube channel. Well now he is back with yet another fantastic life hack for us and this one is even more useful and practical than the last video! He calls these, the three egg carton tricks and they are perfectly contrived to make your everyday life so much easier this winter.
The Fire-Starter
Do you ever have trouble getting the wood on your campfire or in your fireplace to start burning? I know I do! It takes me countless piles of newspaper and so many matches to get a good fire going. And that is far more work than I have time for when I’m running around trying to get dinner started. So, for me, this trick is going to be a real time-saver!
The CrazyRussianHacker takes an egg carton and stuffs the holes with balls of lint out of the dryer. Then he pours hot wax on them from a candle he’s melted down, cuts them apart, and uses just one as a fire starter. You can see in the video that this little fire starter burns for a very long time, long enough to get the big log underneath it hot enough to start burning as well. What a great idea and it only takes a few minutes to make these!
The Refrigerator Space-Saver
Have you ever noticed how much room egg cartons take up in your fridge? If you’re anything like me, as the eggs in the package dwindle, it really starts to seem like a waste of space to keep that whole carton in there, but leaving lone eggs rolling around the fridge isn’t the best idea either. Well, the CrazyRussianHacker has a solution for us: just cut the empty sections off your egg carton! Now you have plenty of extra room. Brilliant!
The Make-Shift Ice Cube Tray
Every now and then, I have this annoying problem where the automatic ice-cube maker in my fridge breaks and I find myself without ice. As someone who absolutely has to have ice in all my cold drinks, it’s a real problem. The CrazyRussianHacker says this is no problem at all! He simply takes a plastic egg carton and cuts it up to make neat little makeshift ice trays! The best part about this life hack, is it’s also a perfect solution to no ice at picnics. I certainly don’t want to go out and buy a plastic ice cube tray then risk leaving it at the beach and having to buy another one next time. With the plastic egg-carton trays being already disposable, they are a much better option for tossing in my cooler and just throwing out with the rest of the waste when we pack up to go home. Love it!
