My grandmother always taught me that our families and our health determine our true wealth in life! You may be the richest, most successful person in the world, but without the support of loved ones and a healthy mind and body, your life will seem incomplete. While there’s no crystal ball to determine how your life’s adventures will pan out, there are some simple instructions for extending the longevity of your life and happiness!
More people than ever before are living and thriving beyond 100 years old. According to a paper published in the Scandinavian Cardiovascular Journal, there are seven ways to enjoy a long, healthy life.
These scientists put their theories to the test to find the answer to the question, “What’s the secret of living past 100 years old?”
They spent 50 years analyzing over 850 men born in 1913 and monitored the seven that lived to be over 100 years old.
They found that each and every one had the seven things in common.
1. Don’t smoke
That’s right, Audrey. It’s time to put out the cigarette if you want to make it to the 100+ club.
2. Have a good socioeconomic standing
While most of us will never be ‘throw money out of the window’ rich, the study states that your socioeconomic standing aids with top-of-the-line healthcare.
3. Have an old mom
Although this one is out of your control, scientists determined having a mom who lives to an old age is a great sign that you will too.
4. Maintain high cognitive function
To ward off the horrible side effects of dementia and prolong your time with your little ones, you must keep a sharp mind!
5. Maintain a healthy weight and have good posture
Yes – food is fun, but being overweight is tied to many diseases that ultimately cut your fun life short! All of the participants were on the thin side, and all with impeccable posture.
6. Use a walker when you need one
Falling is a risk for all older people, so set the pride aside and use the walker if you need it!
7. Wear glasses
They may be sweet, Marilyn, but those men wearing glasses are also more likely to reach their golden years! The study found they are more likely to go to eye exams, which gives them more chances to spot ocular disease early. Better vision also means a decrease in accidents!
Although they may not be “secrets” to some, it’s interesting to see the similarities amongst the participants in this study. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll do anything to prolong the happy life you live!
