Elijah Cook was born a happy, healthy baby. But it wasn’t until 12 hours after his birth that doctors determined Elijah did not pass his hearing screening.

Nurses convinced his parents, Ahavah and Jason Cook, that the result was common for babies to fail their first test, but there was hope for his 24-hour follow-up exam.

After three failed tests, it was confirmed that Elijah was born with severe deafness in both ears.

The loving parents continued to ask questions to understand their baby boy‘s diagnosis. When he finally reached 9 weeks old, his parents were ecstatic to try his tiny hearing aids for the first time.

Elijah looks up at his mother when she says his name, and my heart instantly melted. Their sweet interaction truly shows how incredible a mother and child’s bond can be. She says she was “trying really hard not to cry,” but I don’t know how she did it! I would have been a mess!

This beautiful family celebrates Elijah, hearing aids included! His big sister, Evelyn, stays right by his side – no matter what!
