In illness, patients need tremendous support. It is sometimes the coping mechanism that is most effective. For someone who has been diagnosed with cancer, a support system is both necessary and beneficial.
P.S. 22 of Staten Island New York, did just that when they performed a song for one of their favorite teachers who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Watch as the members of the P.S. 22 Chorus serenade Mrs. Adriana Lopez in an unfeigned cover of Martina McBride’s ‘I Am Going to Love You Through It.’
Gregg Breinberg otherwise known as Mr. B, explains a ritual of his chorus. It was the last day of practice for the P.S. 22 students. Mr. B clarified that he liked to perform the last song with his group. Inspired by Mrs. Lopez tenacious fight with cancer, he thought it would be a great idea for the chorus to give something back to their favorite teacher.
As the chorus sings wholeheartedly, the teacher is emotionally overwhelmed and is brought to an inundation of tears. When you see how lovely this gesture is, she won’t be the only one crying. Thinking of the teacher’s struggles, the honest devotion of the children and Mr. B… it’ll be hard to hold back your tears.
Mr. B’s melodic voice joins in for a quick solo, intensifying the emotions. The children continue with sound raising pink flowers in the air as a symbol of their support. When it’s all done, Mrs. Lopez is barely able to complete her speech, but she manages to thank everyone for their kindness.
What an emotional tribute. Bravo!
SHARE the love and pass it on.
