The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) just released a video that will break your heart.

At a Kentucky elementary school, one sheriff found himself in a confrontational situation with a third grader with ADHD. The video doesn’t show their dispute but the horrific aftermath of how the officer handled the situation.

Caught on tape is the officer handcuffing the 53-pound little boy. “You don’t get to swing at me like that. You can do what we’ve asked you to, or you can suffer the consequences,” you hear him saying over the little boy’s cry.

The little boy was sat down, handcuffed in the corner for 15 minutes. According to the Huffington Post, the third grader has “a history of trauma,” in addition to his ADHD. But this isn’t the first time this Kentucky elementary school has had a situation like this. They report that the same school resource officer also handcuffed a 9-year-old girl last fall.

Since the releasing of this video, the ACLU has filed a lawsuit against the Kenton County Sheriff’s department for the shackling of the two children. “As a result of being subjected to unnecessary and subjective handcuffing, plaintiffs experienced pain, fear and emotional trauma, and an exacerbation of their disabilities.”

There’s no telling what additional trauma the boy experienced after this scenario, but I can’t imagine it was pleasant.
