There is a cheer squad in Texas that stirred up the Internet after releasing a recording of their 9/11-themed cheer routine.  The Lumberton High School cheerleaders used actual recordings made on the day of the terrorist attacks during the much talked-about routine to tribute those that were lost on that perilous day.

The cheerleaders performed the routine on 9/11 at their school to the song Lee Greenwood “God Bless the U.S.A.” The performance included audio clips of live news reports from the scene as well as comments from then-President George W. Bush.

The 9/11 commemoration performance is an annual tradition for the cheer team, according to local reports. Team coach Lauren Sheffield told the news, “We do this because we believe it is very important to honor and remember the first responders, those who gave their lives, and those who still mourn the hole left by lost loved ones.”

The touching sentiment isn’t without criticism though. Responses to the video ranged from extremely positive and supportive to outright disgust and outrage—which is pretty typical of any video posted to the Internet these days. Some people think the cheerleaders delivered a powerful, emotional tribute to the victims of 9/11 while others think the squad was particularly tone-deaf in its usage of the recordings.
