We’ve all heard of classical music prodigies like Mozart or today’s Yo-Yo Ma, but this little newborn is a whole different story. When baby Penelope’s parents went in for their 14-week ultrasound, they merely expected to get a peek at a typically-developing fetus — and perhaps see their soon-to-be daughter inadvertently kicking her momma in the stomach — but they definitely did not expect the image they saw on the screen. Lit up in changing shades of grey and white, little Penelope, wasn’t sleeping or casually floating around in amniotic fluid, no, instead, she was dancing!
In a video that has already gone viral on the web, Penelope can be seen swaying and clapping along to the beat of “If You’re Happy and You Know It” as her parents sing to her. Within only a few seconds of playback, it’s clear that before she even left the womb, this tiny baby has a better ear for rhythm than most adult musicians on the radio today. She even seemed able to anticipate when her parents were about to pause for breath!
Watch as she rocks her body to their song, then halts, arms open and ready, before clapping as the next stanza begins.
As fun as this video was to watch, Penelope’s story doesn’t end there. In fact, in addition to being a percussion savant, this little girl might also be the luckiest newborn alive. Her 92-year-old grandmother, Millie, has been on her deathbed throughout the entire pregnancy. Nobody thought Millie would live long enough to meet her dancing grandchild. But lo and behold, Penelope was born just three days ago, and yesterday, for the first time, Grandma Millie got to hold her. Captured in a photo that will surely go viral just as quickly as Penelope’s ultrasound, Millie and her granddaughter cuddle in grandma’s hospital bed and stare adoringly into each other’s eyes.

Though we can’t say for certain what will happen with Penelope’s future music career, we can certainly say that her life, and that of those privy to it, is shaping up to be a joyful one. Having said that, we won’t be the least bit surprised if in a few years, she turns out to be a star on America’s Got Talent or So You Think You Can Dance. As a matter of fact, we’re rather looking forward to it.
