It starts out like a crime scene investigation. A zookeeper finds multiple sets of footprints leading out of a cage. Shuffling is heard down a corridor. The investigator turns the corner and bang, he finds the culprits attempting their escape. Except they’re not criminals on the run, they’re penguins!

Penguins have a strong herd mentality, so if one of them makes a break for it, they all make a break for it. This avian version of “The Shawshank Redemption” took place at the Odense Zoo in Denmark. A group of five penguins made a break for it after finding an escape route. Luckily for zoogoers and zookeepers, the animals found themselves made. Dead end.

You can see the moment when the penguins realizes they’ve been outed. They scurry back from whence they came in an attempt to make it seem like they just got lost. No, no. You guys were caught red handed, er, red winged. “Don’t worry, guys. Okay, act natural. Act natural. Oh no, they saw us. RUN!”

It’s like a real life version of the Penguins of Madagascar. These guys booked it back to the cage faster than you can say “Happy Feet.” Not to worry, they all made it back into the penguin cage safe and sound, where they can further plot their next great escape.
