Anyone can go to Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Michael’s, Hobby Lobby or Kohl’s to get their outdoor decor, but it takes a real cheermeister to do it yourself. If you love the look of twinkling lights or candles within a clear vase, you are going to love this Wax Balloon Luminaries.
First prepare your space before you begin to work. Next, lay wax paper down on a clean, flat surface. This will be used to lay your waxed balloon while it cools. Place wax pieces in either the double boiler or a large glass bowl.
Fill a balloon to approximately 2/3 of the way with water and then tie the top. Heat and prepare wax. If you are using the double boiler, turn the stove to medium-low. Or, you can place a bowl in the microwave and cook the wax on high for approximately 30 seconds. Be sure to constantly stir the wax as it melts.
If you are using the double boiler, monitor carefully and remove from heat when 90% of the wax has melted. Stir and the remaining wax will melt. With the microwave method, cook for 30-second increments stirring in between heat times.
Dip the balloon into the wax several times. To obtain that thick wax appearance, you will need to dip, remove and repeat until you achieve the desired thickness. Place the balloon on the wax paper and allow it to dry for 24 to 48 hours of dry time depending on how thick you made your vase.
Pop the balloon with a small pin and gently pull away balloon matter from the dried wax to reveal your vase.
Simply the best DIY you have ever done!
