This episode of Jeapordy contained the funniest moment ever. When the host read off the answer for the $200 question in the “Tool Time” category, he wasn’t at all expecting this response. The contestant who called out to play this particular option, must have been thinking with his junior high brain, because the question he shouted out used a slang term that everyone else stopped use after they graduated from the eighth grade.
The host is so shocked, that after he says that it’s the wrong answer, he starts laughing and has to take a lighthearted moment out of game play to tease the contestant, Ken Jennings.
“Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!” he exclaimed. “They teach you that in school in Utah, huh?” Meanwhile the entire audience was cracking up laughing, and Jennings’ fellow contestants are having a difficult time holding in their own chuckles. The answer on the screen was, “This term for a long-handled gardening tool can also mean an immoral pleasure seeker.” And Jennings’ response? “What is a hoe!” It wasn’t the worst guess in the world, except for the fact that he used a slang term that we’re all pretty sure can’t be found in the dictionary. The correct response, “What is a rake” is a little known slur that few people today would have heard about. It was certainly an amusing moment to watch, if you love the show Jeopardy. And my, what an embarrassing couple of minutes that must have been for contestant Ken Jennings!
Everyone back home probably teased him for days about that one. But hey, at least he made it onto the show, and if he had to make a mistake, at least that is one that is a little bit understandable for anyone who grew up in this day and age.
