There are many reasons why we consider Aerosmith to be such a legendary band. One attribute has to do with the incredible vocal ability of their lead singer, Steven Tyler. Here, he covers “Amazing Grace” and I am sure that this heartwarming rendition will leave you speechless, in addition to some goosebumps.
I am sure you have heard “Amazing Grace” many, many times over, but never quite like this. In the early 2000s, Tyler attended church at the Renaissance Unity Church in Warren, MI. He was asked by one church official to bless the stage and perform a song.
The clip in its entirety shows Tyler talking about how the church official helped him with his sobriety during his struggle with addiction before joining Juliette Hamilton for a spine-tingling rendition of the gospel. Though he’s known for his massive stage presence, screaming vocals, and outlandish persona, Steven is the perfect singing partner for Juliette.
Her voice is as powerful as his, and the two takes us to church. Their duet is simply breathtaking! I love how he remains relatively restrained, yet his raspy trademark voice and rawness can’t help but shine.
It’s been 40 years since Aerosmith burst onto the music scene, and despite his battles with addiction, depression, and trauma, Steven remains a bright light and a legend in the world of rock ‘n roll.
SHARE the love, pass it on.
