To celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., two a cappella groups join, in what would normally seem an unlikely collaboration, to perform a cover version of the classic James Taylor song, “Shed a Little Light.” This amazing rendition is spellbinding.

The Maccabeats, a Jewish a cappella group, first came together in 2007 at Yeshiva University. The popular group is known for their catchy tunes and pleasant harmonies. Recently, they collaborated with Naturally 7, another group that experienced success all over New York- even opening for Michael Buble. The 7-member vocal group lent their voices to one of the most touching tributes you will ever hear.

Both groups can masterfully reproduce instrument-like sounds with only their mouths, taking their melodies and harmonies to a different level. Their song has beautifully encapsulated the message that Martin Luther King, Jr. spread in his famous “I have a dream” speech.

Delivered on August 28, 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., the profound speech was part of a march in Washington that was attended by 250,000 people. King’s speech remains one of the most famous speeches in American history. Although he started with prepared remarks, he soon departed from his script, shifting into the now historical, “I have a dream” theme.
