Nature has a way of showing us just how beautiful life is. The relationship between a mother and a newborn, no matter the species, is always heartwarming. After spotting a wild otter using the protected basin of their Great Tide Pool day after day, workers at California’s Monterey Bay Aquarium were intrigued. By playing close attention to the animal, they were able to capture one of the most beautiful moments ever captured.

“It’s rare for a healthy sea otter to visit the pool so frequently, [so] we started to wonder if she was doing all right,” aquarium officials wrote on their blog. As it turns out, the otter was more than alright, and everyone was in for an awfully cute surprise. The animal gave birth to an adorable and sweet pup right at the aquarium, much to the delight of onlookers, causing the fluffy duo began to garner attention immediately.

Lucky spectators watched on as this baby, who was barely 1-day-old, formed that precious bond that moms and their newborns create. As they floated peacefully together, the otter pup cuddled up to her mother, even falling asleep on her belly.
