I have gone through life loading my dishwasher in the only way I knew how – cramming every last piece I can fit into the machine, no matter how tight the squeeze, and with absolutely no rhyme or reason!

Well apparently, there’s actually a correct way to load the dishwasher, and it’s certainly not how I’ve been doing it! Engineers over at the University of Birmingham Un the U.K. have discovered the most efficient way to do your dishes, and it’s probably not how you think! They have determined that by facing your dishes inward in a circle, you can optimize water flow.

They say the center of the top shelf is also the best place to get the full force of water jets – so put all your most caked on dishes there! Who would have thought?!
