Everyone knows that crime does not pay, and the following story is a prime example. According to Fox News, a 22-year-old man suspected of burglarizing homes in Florida was killed and partially eaten by an 11-foot alligator after he waded into a lake in an attempt to avoid detection by law enforcement officers pursuing him.
According to Brevard County Sheriff’s Maj. Tod Goodyear, Matthew Riggins of Palm Bay told his girlfriend that he and another assailant were off to the Barefoot Bay area to commit burglaries. While escaping the police, Riggins jumped into the lake and was apparently devoured by the animal. Police say that an autopsy of Riggins determined that he drowned after the alligator attack.
A necropsy on the alligator revealed parts of the man’s body in the reptile’s stomach, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies chased Riggins and another suspect after residents in the community reported two suspicious men walking behind houses. No suspects were caught that night, but Riggins body was found 10 days later floating in a lake. Unfortunately for him, he chose the wrong place as a hiding spot.
