When you combine apple with pastry for a breakfast treat, the result is nothing short of a delight. The crispy, flaky crust filled with apple goodness makes my mouth drool.
Preparation time for this Apple Cream Breakfast Pastry, by YummyHealthyEasy.com, takes only 20 minutes, and the cooking time is 15 minutes. In less than an hour, you can whip up the most delightful morning treat!
To make this morning goodness, get 2—8 ounce packages of crescent rolls, 1—8 ounce package light cream cheese, softened, 1 can apple pie filling, ¼ cup powdered sugar, 1 egg yolk, ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract, ½ cup powdered sugar, and 2-3 teaspoons of milk.
Preheat your oven to 350ºF, and prepare a pizza pan with nonstick cooking spray. Open both packages of crescent rolls and separate into 16 triangles. Arrange 12 triangles in a circle on the perimeter of the pizza pan. Place the wide edges on the outside of the pan and the pointy ends toward the middle. Next, press the outer seams together with the points in the middle
Then prepare the cream cheese filling. In a bowl, combine cream cheese, ¼ cup powdered sugar, egg yolk, vanilla extract, and whisk until there is a smooth consistency. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the outer edges—2 inches wide of the dough, within about ½ inch of the edge. Next, spoon pie filling on top of the cream cheese layer.
Take the points of the crescent triangles in the middle of the pizza pan and place them up over the filling, pressing the outer edge. Repeat the step around the pan making a circular shape.
Next, cut the remaining 4 crescent triangles lengthwise into three strips equaling 12 small pieces. Make your way around the pastry covering the outer edges with the small triangles. There should be 12 vacant spots to place your small triangles. Press the larger seams together on the outside of the ring and the points on the inside of the ring.
Place in oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from oven and cool for about 10-15 minutes.
To create the glaze, combine ½ cup powdered sugar and 2-3 teaspoon milk and mix until smooth. Drizzle over the pastry, and slice into triangles.
