Knatalye Hope and Adeline Faith Mata we born attached to the chest. Nothing devastated loves ones more than knowing the struggles these two precious little girls would have to go through in life conjoined. But they lived up to their middles names in their journey to independence.
These sisters shared a chest wall, lungs, diaphragm, intestines, and pelvis- foreshadowing a difficult life no mother would want for their child.
So, a team of 26 doctors and medical staff came together to partake in one of the riskiest surgeries of their career.
Surgery took 20 hours and loved ones waited eagerly in the room next door.
Finally, after the longest wait of these parent’s lives, the head surgeon came into the waiting room to share the wonderful news. Surgery was a success! They survived!
All these eager parents could do was show their gratitude and love through hugs and cheers!
On two separate hospital beds, family and friends gathered around in awe and watched the beginning of the rest of these independent girls’ lives.
