She Found This Badly Abused Dog On The Streets, But Saved Him With Social Media

A resident of Hong Kong, Amanda Ho Min-Ching and her friends were innocently walking down the street, minding their own business and chatting, when they heard a sad whimpering sound. They decided to investigate, and we’re very glad they did, because what they found was a beautiful German Shepherd who had been horribly beaten and left to die on the side of the road. The precious animal had streaks of blood near it’s mouth, a swollen tongue, and injuries all over her paws.

Min-Ching and her friends couldn’t leave this adorable dog to die, so they arranged for her to be brought to an emergency veterinary clinic nearby. The poor dog’s wounds were so severe that the vet told the girls the pup would need several surgeries in order to have a fighting chance.

Though Min-Ching and her friends certainly weren’t rich, during the trip to the vet’s office, she and the sweet dog had bonded, and Min-Ching couldn’t bear to see the injured animal be put down, the alternative to having the needed surgeries. So, Min-ching told the veterinarian that she would do her best to come up with the money and gave the doctor the go-ahead to start performing the needed surgeries.

While the dog, affectionately named Barry, was being cared for by the vet, Min-Ching, her new owner, had a brilliant idea. She turned on her computer, went on facebook, and created a new group to show her social media network the abused animal. So many people were horrified and touched by the bloody photos of poor Barry, that her post began inspiring them to donate.

After only a short time, more than 3,000 people had offered to give money towards Barry’s medical bills and Min-ching was able to raise $22,000 for the dog’s first round of surgeries. Thanks to the help of all these kind people, Barry’s first surgery was a success and she can be seen looking much better in the photos below, as she rests in the vet’s office below. It will take at least one more surgery for Barry to be completely out of the woods. If you’ve been inspired by this story, Min-ching is still trying to gather donations to come up with the money for the dog’s next round of treatments and her facebook page can be found here
