The world was shocked this morning to hear the tragic news of well-known British actor Alan Rickman’s death at the age of 69.
Rickman was best known for his roles in the Harry Potter series, Die Hard, and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
Many of Rickman’s fellow actors and colleagues have taken to social media to share their condolences, including Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who wrote:
“There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am…We have lost a great talent.”

Rickman’s Harry Potter costar, Daniel Radcliffe, posted on Google Plus to voice his feelings on the tragic news as well.
“Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career.”

Alan Rickman was born in London and began his career in the theatre in the 1980’s. He received several Tony Award nominations, and won a Golden Globe in 1991.

His family announced the actor’s death this morning with a statement that read: “The actor and director Alan Rickman has died from cancer at the age of 69. He was surrounded by family and friends.”
