Make a Valentine’s Day Cherry Pie For Someone You Love

Angela Markus

Valentine’s Day is drawing near! Instead of going all commercial this year, make a gift from the heart- filled with lots of hearts! This V-Day cherry pie is the perfect treat for someone you love.

You will need 3 ¾ cups All Purpose flour, 1 ½ teaspoon salt, 1 ½ teaspoon sugar, 1 ½ cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter, 1/2-3/4 cup ice cold water, and 2 cans of cherry pie filling.

First, put the flour, sugar, and salt in the bowl of a food processor, and process until combined. Next, add the butter, and process until mixture crumbles (about 10-15 seconds). With the machine running, add the ice water in a slow, steady stream through the tube just until the dough starts to hold together. Do not process for more than 30 seconds.

You will want to test the dough by pinching a small amount. If it is still crumbly, add a little bit more water. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and divide into 2 equal parts. Place each piece tightly in plastic wrap and flatten into a disc, and refrigerate at least 1 hour before using.

Remove one portion from the fridge and roll into a round shape to fit a 9-inch baking dish and flute edges. Next fill with the cherry pie filling, and set aside. Roll out the second portion of the dough and using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, make heart shapes and place on top of the pie in a spiral shape.
