Mark Hermann, an innocent bystander in northern Kentucky, confronted a father when he saw the unthinkable. In the middle of a hot afternoon, he found an unoccupied truck with the engine running.

With a second glance, the man realized there was a young child strapped into the carseat in the back of the truck. He told ABC affiliate WCPO-TV, “At first, I didn’t know if I should call the police.” Instead, Hermann took out his camera to take a picture of the license plate and record the circumstance he witnessed.

When the father returned to his truck, Hermann said, “You know, if I was a bad guy, I could’ve just drove off with this.” The father replied with, “I bet you would’ve got two in the back of the head.”

The confrontation didn’t end in any violence, but people everywhere have seen the video Hermann posted on the Internet. While the father may have been able to keep his young son in his eyesight the entire time, this dangerous scenario strikes a nerve with all parents.
