Children Save Mother From Armed Intruder

Rachael Moore had very few options when her violent boyfriend and father to two of her children, Daryl Fields, reloaded his shotgun to finish her off. Intent on killing her, the intoxicated man stormed Moore’s home and shot her once in the arm. But it was the swift and remarkable reaction of her young children that saved her life.

The 38-year-old mother of five reveals to 60 Minutes that as his car arrived in the driveway, she feared the worst. She told her children, Jayden, 14, Cameron, 12, Kaylee, 10, Zane, 4, and  Samantha, 2, to get to safety. Immediately, Rachel knew that her family was in danger. As expected, the children watched in horror as their mother’s life was threatened, and then the unthinkable happened. The children completely disregarded their mother’s warning and bomb-rushed her the assailant.

Moore’s eldest sons are both actors and used their fight-scene training to fend off Fields. While the boys wrestled with the attacker, her daughter Kaylee stepped in and picked her mother up to get her away. She also helped her mother attend to her wounds  and quickly called the police to get help.

Thank goodness the children’s gallant display of courage was able to keep their mother from what seemed like a very close encounter with death.
