This Couple With Alzheimer’s Died Within Minutes of Each Other, But She Never Forgot This One Promise

Patrick Dangermond

Bill and Lillian Wilson had been married 73 years and even though they spent their final moments in separate nursing homes, they passed on the way they should have – together.

Lillian, 89, and Bill, 93, both suffered from Alzheimer’s disease which, as we know, is devastating. He was moved into a veterans care center in 2010 and she was moved into a nursing home in 2013.  Despite being physically separated, Lillian made good on a promise that she long held, “I’m not going until Bill goes.”

Married in 1941, this couple had lived all throughout the state of Kentucky and were high school sweethearts. Even though Alzheimer’s had taken their memory, Lillian waited for Bill to head into the next life together, just like she said she would.

“We all look at it as a blessing because we’re having one funeral for both of them,” said their son, Doug.

RIP Bill and Lillian.
