Parenting is daunting enough with a partner. When you’re a single parent going at it all alone, the stakes are always much higher. From diaper duty with no shift changes to shelling out for college tuition all on your own, single parenting is not for the faint of heart.

As tough as it is, some single parents master their duties. Jason Garmon is one of those parents. Raising two children, Skylar, and Grayson, he does not lose sight of the importance of his daddy-daughter relationship. The way he invites his daughter to a dance will melt your heart.

This single-dad from Virginia recently staged a special surprise for his daughter to ask her to go to his work’s father-daughter dance. Garmon and his son covered 11-year-old daughter Skylar’s eyes and led her to a table set for two with glasses of lemonade. Once Skylar opened her eyes, she saw Garmon standing with a bouquet of flowers, next to a sign that read, “Will you go to the Daddy/Daughter dance with me?”

The father offered amazing advice to men of all ages. He wrote, “Just because I’m her Dad doesn’t mean I’m going to assume she’ll go with me. You ask out a lady like it’s the first time every time. Always keep her guessing, always try to win her. I don’t care if it’s your daughter, your girlfriend or your wife, the day you stop trying is the day you’ll lose her. I had always planned on doing something like this for a woman, but I realized the most important female that deserves my attention is already right here beside me.”
