We all know the classic tale. Boy wants to take teen girl to prom, dad shows up with a shotgun and gives boy a lecture about taking care of his baby girl. For most of us, this was just an extreme scene on TV, and though our fathers may have tried the whole, let’s-sit-down-and-get-to-know-this-boy routine, they probably didn’t actually threaten our beaus. Not so with father, Benjamin Schock. This dad is a dyed-in-the-wool protector, and according to him, no words of warning are too extreme for his daughters’ dates. Upon meeting his daughter, Ricarra’s fifteen-year-old boyfriend, Benjamin Schock made sure to give the boy a warning he would never forget. Schock told the teen that if the boy ever “did anything” to Ricarra, Schock would do the “same thing” to him.
Of course, what the boy didn’t know at the time, was that Benjamin had recently been diagnosed with brain cancer, which had caused him to start trying to find humor in otherwise painfully-awkward situations. So, when Ricarra’s dad made the comment with an entirely straight face, the poor boy took it completely to heart. All throughout their relationship, the poor boy had done his utmost to be on his best behavior whenever he was around Benjamin Schock.
Realizing the scared teen had no idea that Schock was mostly just joking, when it came time for the young couple to attend their school’s Homecoming dance, Benjamin and his wife, Sharee, came up with a brilliant prank to play on the boy. Sharee was a professional photographer, so when she took the young couple’s Homecoming photos, she also planned a second photo shoot with the boyfriend and girlfriend in separate photos. Mom kept an entirely straight face while her husband snuck up behind the boyfriend and wrapped his arms around the teen’s waist, in the same way the kid had done when posing for a photo with Ricarra earlier that day. Sharee quickly shot the picture, then posted the hilarious photo, side by side with the original teen’s picture, on her Facebook page with the caption,
“My husband had mentioned previously in humor that he would do to the boyfriend whatever was done to our daughter. So he jumped in the picture…”

It wasn’t long until these parents’ humorous take on the father’s threat went viral, and it soon ended up on Imgur, where after only a few short days, it ended up with over three million views. Ricarra, understanding that her father was just trying to lighten the mood and give the family a laugh, wasn’t upset. Her mother, Sharee, explained to the public,
“My husband is a big-hearted teddy bear, so it was his way of being silly with a pinch of ‘I’m watching you, buddy….’ We hope that above anything else this picture shows the love and protective nature of a dad with his little girl, but in a playful and not-so-intimidating manner.”
