Those wax-paper-wrapped strips of desiccated fruit juice are such addictive snack. Just ask your kids, they will agree. Some of the big name brands of fruit roll ups say ‘naturally flavored,’ and ‘gluten-free,’ but if you were to look at the contents of the package, you will have a scary realization.
Any fruit-flavored snack that might resemble fruit leather in appearance and texture is not really nutritional. They are a novel snack for children and contain added vitamin C, But although it might be a better snack than candy, Fruit Roll-Ups don’t stack up very well when you compare them to fresh or dried fruit.
But homemade fruit roll-ups is a great alternative and more appetizing name than the sugary treat we are so addicted too. Not that I have anything against pre-packaged foods but making things from scratch tasted so much better. Don’t you agree?
To try this at home, you will need:
3 sliced mangos
Blender
Baking sheet
Parchment paper
First, slice your mangoes and blend it together. Prepare your baking sheet by layering with parchment paper. Next paste the puree on baking sheet spreading to about 1/8 inch thick.
Bake at 175° for 2 to 3 hours. When it has cooled, cut into strips and roll up. When you are ready to serve, remove the parchment paper. It is better than anything you ever had.
SHARE the love and pass it on.
