Calling all frugalistas: you no longer need to waste money on liquid hand soap. “Why?” you ask. Well, you can make your very own at just a fraction of the cost!
That’s right, the ladies over at Pretty Frugal Living are showing us just how easy and thrifty it is. The recipe below yields an entire l liter of liquid soap and it only cost 50¢!
Ingredients
1/2 bar of pure soap, grated (nothing with moisturizer already added – try Ivory)
5 cups hot water
1 T glycerin (find in any pharmacy)
1 T oil (whichever kind suits your fancy)
1 T dish soap
First, you’ll need to grate your soap.
Then scoop your shavings into a large heat-proof bowl.
Add hot water to bowl and gently whisk until all of the bits of soap have dissolved.
Then whisk in the rest of the ingredients and let cool. This should take about two full hours.
Whisk your mixture again – you should notice your soap has thickened up a bit!
Use a funnel to pour your liquid soap into an existing dispenser. You can also add a few drops of essential oil to the mix if you prefer a customized scent.
