Dog Spends A Week Guarding Her Trapped Friend Until Help Arrives

Angela Markus

Man’s best friend is not only a loyal companion to man but other canines as well. When friends Tillie, a golden retriever and Phoebe, a basset hound, went missing for a week in Washington, naturally their owner feared the worst.

But the worst turned out to be nothing as dreadful as everyone thought. In fact, Phoebe had become stuck in an old cistern, with Tillie refused to leave her side.

The beautiful story shows devotion unlike any other. Volunteers had been searching for the dogs for a week, but had failed to receive any leads until they received a call. The caller reported that a “reddish” dog had been approaching a member of the public when they were on their property before dashing back into a ravine.

According to the rescue group Facebook post, one volunteer wrote, “With a bit of a needle-in-the-haystack hope, we made our way into the ravine and after a bit of searching, finally heard that sweet sound we had been waiting for all week.”

They found Tillie lying beside an old cistern, faithfully standing guard over her friend Phoebe, who had been trapped inside the entire time. Luckily, Phoebe was found perched on some concrete rubble that had kept her out of the water.

This humbling example of the power of love is extraordinary. Tillie refused to move because her friend was in need.

Thankfully, both dogs were safely reunited with their owner and are in good health.

Isn’t this the most heartwarming thing you’ve seen?

SHARE the love and pass it on.
