If you’ve never had an egg in a hole for breakfast then you are missing out! This tasty dish is easy, fun and a nutritious way to start your day.
All you need to make it is 1 slice of bread, 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of butter.
Heat your skillet over medium heat and add your butter. While the skillet heats and the butter melts, use a glass to cut a circle out from the center of your slice of bread. Now lay both pieces of bread – the piece with the center cut out and also the cut out circle from the center – into your frying pan. Let it fry for about a minute or two, until the bread starts to get all toasty on the bottom. Then flip both pieces of bread over with your spatula.
Crack your egg on the side of your pan and empty it into the hole in the center of your bread. While your egg is cooking don’t forget your seasonings! Let your egg fry in the center of the bread until the white of the egg starts to become opaque, about 2 or 3 minutes. Very carefully, flip it with your spatula again. Flip both pieces of bread. Let it cook another minute or so, to firm up the egg white on the top, and then remove, while the yolk is still soft, for an egg in a hole over easy. Or cook another couple of minutes to firm up the yolk, if you prefer. Use your spatula to remove both pieces of bread to a plate, and enjoy while it’s hot!
