When An Elephant Collapses, His Herd Does Something I’ve Never Seen Before

Bethany Burrows

Scientists say that elephants have complex social and emotional behaviors that we are still learning about every day. They believe that elephants place a higher value on family than most other animals and thats one of the things that makes them very special.

The female elephants are usually in charge of babysitting and they are pretty good at it too!

Elephants look out for each other and never leave a one of their herd behind, as you can see in the video below.

When one of the calves lays down in the middle of the road, the whole herd jumps in to try and help.

A few give him gentle nudges with their feet, others use their trunks to try and persuade the fellow to get up.

It takes them a few minutes but eventually the calf decides it’s time to get up and follow the rest of his herd.

This just might be the cutest thing I’ve seen all day.
