Electropop singer Ellie Goulding has given her fans an early Christmas gift with the release of her “O Holy Night” rendition via social media as a free download. The “Love Me Like You Do” singer offered an angelic version of the centuries-old Christmas Carol thanking her fans for their unwavering support.
Originating in mid-19th century France, the traditional Christmas carol is backed by piano, strings and choral accompaniment for Ellie Goulding’s cover. The ten-time World Music Award nominee gained international recognition in 2014 with her singles “Burn,” “How Long Will I Love You,” the Calvin Harris smash “I Need Your Love”, and her album’s title track “Halcyon.”
Goulding’s recently released third album, Delirium, dropped in November and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Her Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack contribution landed her a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance, as well as an MTV VMAs nom for Best Female Video earlier this year. It’s fair to say that Ellie has a lot to be thankful for. “I recorded this for fun and as a Christmassy thank you for all the beautiful support I’ve had this year,” she wrote on Instagram.
“O’ Holy Night” has been covered by Celine Dion, Josh Groban, and, my personal favorite, Mariah Carey. Goulding holds her own with her very cherubic voice—perfect for falling asleep next to the tree as snow gently carpets the ground outside. Well, even though the United States is unnaturally warm right now, you can still enjoy this beautiful rendition for free.
SHARE the love, pass it on.
