Firefighters are some of the bravest men and women in our country. Their willingness to forsake their own safety to save others is something we should all be thankful for.
Most firefighters have seen their fair share of tragedy and aren’t shocked by much but what one fireman witnessed was something he never expected.
Aaron Van Riper is the assistant chief for the Thomas Lake Fire Department and one of the bravest men you’ll ever see. He was responding to a car accident when he discovered that the totaled car belonged to his own family.
Aaron’s wife Amber had been driving with his son Jonathan when they were hit head on by a pickup truck. Amber had been thrown from the car and Jonathan was still trapped inside. He began to panic but quickly composed himself enough to be able to help save his wife and son. At the hospital, Amber went through a nine hour surgery to repair her pelvis in the five places it was broken. Jonathan was lucky to only have broken his arm and leg but both him and his mom are going to have a tough road ahead. Although the family doesn’t have health insurance, a GoFundMe page was created by their family so people can donate to cover medical bills.
Although the cause of the collision is still unknown, everyone is thankful that Amber and Jonathan are on the road to recovery. Keep them in your prayers.
