Tanya and Adam Phillips had wanted matching tattoos for a while. They couldn’t decide what they wanted until one day they were out with their adorable 18-month-old daughter and something happened that made up their mind.

 

“We had talked about having duplicate tattoos done for a little while but that day my mind was made up”

This adorable little girl is Honey-Rae Phillips, the daughter of Tanya and Adam. She was born with a large birthmark that covers most of her right leg. Birthmarks are very common things that many people are born with. But Tanya and Adam knew that sometimes people can make cruel or hurtful remarks.

“Although in our eyes she was perfect, I knew people would cruelly point and stare at her”

One day while they were out shopping they were waiting in line to checkout. As they were waiting, an old couple began whispering and staring at Honey-Rae’s leg. This moment confirmed their fears, that people can be unknowingly hurtful. It was in that moment that Tanya and Adam knew what they wanted to do.

They decided to get a tattoo on their right leg that exactly matched Honey-Rae’s birthmark. They wanted their beautiful daughter to not feel alone and know that she’s not different than anyone else.

“I was stood at a check out till, when I saw an old couple whispering and staring at Honey-Rae’s leg. I was distraught. It was first time I had taken her out without covering her up and it confirmed all my worries and fears. People are cruel without even realising”

Honey-Rae’s reaction to their matching tattoos was all the confirmation they needed that they had made the right decision.

“When the swelling went down, I showed Honey-Rae, and she gently touched it and smiled as she said ‘Match,’ pointing to her own leg. If I’d have needed any reassurance that I’d made the right decision that was it”

 

These parents decided to go above and beyond the norm to make their daughter feel comfortable in her own skin. Although out of the ordinary, you have to admire their unconditional love and affection!
