This glamorous grandmother is proving that age just a number. She is competing in the final of a beauty pageant against women much younger than her and is even braving the bikini round! Amanda Booth is 54 years old, and she vowed to live life to the fullest after her son Stuart was killed in a car accident five years ago. She is doing just that by fulfilling her modeling dreams and entering the Miss Galaxy competition.

Competition officials have confirmed Booth is the oldest contestant and is likely to be more than 20 years older than her fellow contestants in the over 30s category.

That little fact is not stopping the fit grandmother of five from entering the contest and baring some skin as she is required to don a bikini in front of hundreds of strangers.

Booth explains her inspiration in the video about her up and coming pageant. She realized that “life was too short.” However, she admits to feeling an attack of nerves when she realized she would have to go on stage in swimwear. However, she believes that if her son could see her now, he would feel proud of what she’s doing.

Stuart was a father of three and he died in December 2008 after falling from a taxi. Completely devastated Amanda, who has another daughter, always wanted to try modeling but eventually mustered up some courage to have professional photos taken. She sent the pictures to the organizers of the competition and was astonished when she advanced to the final.

“I want to prove my self-worth,” Booth said. “I’m excited about the whole concept and I’ll have the confidence hopefully to get up there and strut my stuff!”
