Nicole Graham was riding a horse with her daughter Paris in the coastal town of Gleelong, Australia when disaster struck.
The wet lands that they were walking on suddenly gave out and they began sinking into the mud.
While Nicole was able to get Paris and her horse to safety, she was horrified to see that her own horse, Astro, was so engulfed by the mud, he was unable to make his way out.
Nicole worked fast and was able to lift her horse’s head up so that he wouldn’t drown before help arrived.
She stayed by Astro’s side, keeping him calm as any movement could cause him to sink further into the mud.
Help finally arrived. They sedated Astro so that he would stop struggling, making it easier to remove him from the mud.
With the horse sedated, rescuers attempted to dig Astro out.
But that only caused him to sink even more.
Luckily, a local farmer came to his rescue…with a tractor.
The tractor helped pull Astro out just minutes before the tide came in, which would have made his rescue impossible.
After 3 hours, Astro was finally free.
Astro didn’t suffer any permanent injuries and was rescued thanks to Nicole’s admirable dedication. It’s amazing what pet owners will do for their pets!
