Hospital staff at Louisiana’s Willis-Knighton Cancer Center wanted to do something special for 12-year-old Sophia Petikas’ last day of treatment. Sophia was a big fan of the song “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” (and also the corresponding dance) and her team of doctors and nurses wanted to celebrate her successful round of treatment with a surprise.
The team learned the song and dance through YouTube videos and were absolutely thrilled to show off their moves to Sophia. She was so excited about it that she joined in on the dance.
Sophia’s mom spoke to Inside Edition and expressed her gratitude for the team of nurses and doctors who not only helped her daughter, but who became like family along the way. She went on to say “Our family would like to express how thankful we are for all of the wonderful people at WK who took part in surprising our daughter with this fun, unforgettable surprise.”
The video is a beautiful reminder of community, and though it’s an odd song to cry happy tears to, it’s an absolutely beautiful message! We’re so happy that Sophia is healthy and that she was able to get better thanks to such a wonderful team of doctors. It looks like a truly amazing team!
