Oh hush puppies. Those crispy little balls of fried dough are guaranteed to put a smile on your face!
While I can’t say that I order them in a restaurant very often, making them at home is a breeze!
Tanya from Lemons For Lulu has come up with a recipe for homemade hush puppies that well exceeds any you’ve ever had in a restaurant!
You might want to double this recipe because your family is going to gobble them right up!
1 1/2 cups of cornmeal
3/4 cup of self rising flour
1 1/2 tablespoons of sugar
1/2 cup pepper jack cheese, shredded
1/2 cup chopped poblano pepper
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup of greek yogurt
2 tablespoons of buttermilk
1 tablespoon of ranch seasoning
In a bowl, combine your cornmeal, flour, sugar, cheese and pepper. Add in your egg and buttermilk and stir. Allow your batter to sit for 10 minutes before moving on to the next step.
Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil over medium high on the stove until it reaches 375 degrees. Use a small scoop to drop batter into the oil and let them cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side.
When they’re golden brown remove them from the oil and let them drain on a paper towel.
There you have it, the perfect hush puppy recipe! SHARE the love and pass it on!
