For a couple of months, we have been following the story of Country star Joey Feek and her challenging fight with cancer. Unable to do much more, Joey is enjoying her last days close to family.
Her husband, the other half of their group Joey and Rory, has been updating us on his wife’s courageous battle.
Joey is spending time with her daughter and step-daughters staying in Joey’s childhood home in Alexandria, Indiana. The heartbreaking photo released by the husband shows the girls in a tight embrace. They say that one picture is worth 1000 words, and one could only imagine what these girls are going through.
Joey has cervical cancer, and despite a hysterectomy, radiation and chemotherapy since her diagnosis, Joey has just a few months to live. She has since left the hospital to spend more time with her daughters in hospice care.
The 40-year-old said in an interview with The Tennessean, “I thought I did everything. But God decided for me that my job of singing for people down here is my legacy, and he needs me singing up there. That’s how I look at it.”
She explains that she thought her chances were better with such an aggressive treatment, but has no regrets. “I was just greatly disappointed. I really thought we had it. I thought, ‘I’m going to be that exception. I’m going to be that statistic that stands out and says, ‘She fought it.’”
With faith as strong as teflon, Joey is showing what true grit looks like. Even though God has different plans.
“When I’m Gone,” is this duo’s most popular song. When you hear it, you’ll get chills.
We continue to keep the Feeks in our prayers.
