We live in an age where we can communicate instantly with anyone around the world. Just a few simple clicks on our phones or computers and we can send our love to family and friends instantaneously.

But this era of instant gratification is a relatively new thing. It wasn’t long ago that the Internet wasn’t even a figment of someone’s imagination. Not long before that the thought of cell phones (let alone smartphones) was preposterous!

Rewind back to the 1940s, what many call The Greatest Generation, and you’re looking at letter writing as the main means of communication. So, you can understand why it meant the world to Bill Moore to randomly receive a long-lost love letter he wrote his future wife 70 years ago.

Bill Moore, who know lives in Aurora, Colo., was a 20-year-old soldier fighting in World War II when he wrote this love letter to the woman who would one day become his wife, Bernadean.

“You are so lovely, darling, that I often wonder how it is possible that you are mine,” he wrote in this long-lost love letter. “I’m really the luckiest guy in the world, you know. And you are the reason.”

Bernadean, who died in 2010, and Bill ended up marrying and spent 63 beautiful years together and had three children.

Written decades ago, he thought those sweet words were lost on paper forever. Until a bit of fate brought them back to him. Ilene Ortiz purchased an old record from a thrift store where she discovered the note tucked inside the cover of the vinyl.

Oritz reached out to her local news channel to help find the rightful owner of the letter. Turns out, that rightful owner was not far away. She was able to track down Melina Gale, one of Moore’s kids, and return the letter to her.

“I can’t believe Ilene found this,” Gale told CBS, according to the Huffington Post. “Most of [my parents] dating was through letters in the war. And that was the one thing I remember her talking about. It meant everything to get that letter. And we can’t find them. So this is the only original we would have.”

The look on Bill Moore’s face when he sees the letter for the first time again and reads the words aloud is priceless. Luckily, this precious moment was all captured on camera. You can see the profound love he has for his late wife while he reads the words he wrote to her years ago.
