Tonic Water And Potatoes Make THIS Cool Glow-In-The-Dark Craft – SEE How!

When you think of potatoes, what comes to mind? I’m thinkin’ crispy french fries, garlicy mashed potatoes or savory sweet potato casserole. Maybe I’m hungry and can’t get my mind out of the kitchen, but the science project below is the last thing I think of when I hear the word, “potatoes.”

One crafty YouTuber realized that potatoes have a super power that not many of us ever knew existed! He chops up russet potatoes into tiny chunks and pours hot water over the pieces until they are submerged in the water.

The strange reaction turns the water red in color, which he says is perfectly normal. He strains the water from the potatoes and a white layer appears at the bottom of the bowl.

This strange substance needs to be filtered with more water, which he does with a Mason Jar. The clean, white “magic” that is left behind almost looks like milk, but has a sticky reaction unlike anything you’ve ever seen!

The final touch for this crazy science project? Tonic water!

There is Quinine in tonic water that gives the magic mud it’s supernatural glow. Check out the full tutorial below to see exactly how this easy project is done.

Your kids (and let’s not lie to ourselves, adults too!) will go crazy over this awesome trick!
