If you are a fan of Starbucks, then you have probably heard of its latest controversy. Many Christians are outraged by the company’s decision not to include Merry Christmas on its festive red cup. While some are simply enraged and speaking out about the new design, one guy, in particular, decided to go a little further and prank the store.
Joshua Feuerstein is a professional fundamentalist Christian social media evangelist who specializes in carefully-orchestrated videos designed to go viral like “Dear Mr. Atheist … allow me to destroy evolution in 3 minutes!” Now he’s taking Starbucks down (or at least trying to) because the coffee chain had the audacity to eschew the “winter seasonal” graphic designs that decorated red cups in previous years in favor of a simpler look.
In a short, fast-paced rant, he opens with a little joke, “I think in the age of political correctness we’ve become so open minded our brains have literally fallen out of our head. Did you realize Starbucks wanted to take Christ and Christmas off of their brand new cups? That’s why they’re just plain red.”
Feuerstein continues, “In fact, do you realize that Starbucks isn’t allowed to say Merry Christmas to customers? I decided instead of boycotting, why don’t we start a movement?” So he goes in the chain and when he was asked what name should they use, you guessed it, “Merry Christmas.”
He is also encouraging others to do the same. Many supporters are heading out to the chain to take their coffee selfies with Merry Christmas written on the red cup. While other disagree with his approach.
