Sgt. Ross Gundlach served a tour of duty in Afghanistan where he worked in the bomb detection unit. By his side, 24 hours a day, was Casey, a special dog who sniffed out explosives buried in the ground. After his tour was over, he was forced to leave his dog behind.
When Ross found out that Casey had been adopted by the Iowa state fire marshall’s office, he made an appeal to get his dog back. He thought that it might be a longer process. Little did he know that they had already made an appeal for his dog…and she was coming home with him.
Our military service men and women deserve a lot of respect for what they do. It’s nice to see a state and a community come together to do something special for one of their own.
