Ultrasounds and check ups told the soon-to-be parents they were expecting a healthy baby boy. Then everything changed in the delivery room on March 4th.

Eli Thompson was born at 6 pounds and 8 ounces, but there was one difference that made him a miracle. The doctors delivered Eli and realized he was born with no nose.

This rare malformation only affects 1 in 197 million babies.

When he was just 5 days old, doctors performed a tracheotomy to help with his breathing.

However due to this procedure, Eli now makes no noise when he cries.

His mother, Brandi McGlathery, must keep a constant eye on her newborn.

Eli’s extremely rare condition is called Congenital Arhinia.

Doctors say this condition is potentially life-threatening because of breathing and feeding problems, but there are many cases of babies that survive their adult years.

His mother told the Press-Register, “he’s perfect the way he is.”

“Until the day he wants to have a nose, we don’t want to touch him,” she said. “We have to take it day by day.”

Eli was released from the hospital for the first time on Monday.

Despite the difficult times they faced in the hospital, his mother says he’s doing perfectly fine.
