Mom Unknowingly Lets Kids Play With Bomb, Takes Photos

Erika Carter

Talk about a parenting fail. Two kids were allowed to play with an active bomb for an entire weekend and we’ve got photos to prove it.

While visiting the beach in Carmarthenshire, Wales, Kelly Gravell found her kids fascinated with an old buoy endearing. So much so, in fact, that she spent much of her time photographing her kids playing with the thing.

But as it turns out, that old “buoy” covered in barnacles was actually a bomb.

Yikes.

Speaking about the incident and her children’s (Erin, age 6, and Ellis, age 4) fascination with the mystery beach object, Gravell said,

“ The tide was up so we discovered what we later learned was the bomb — we just thought it was a buoy. We were more interested in the barnacles on it and the kids were looking at them while Gareth noticed that it had a chain on. I even made the joke that it was a big bomb at the time but did not think anything of it.”

A few days after their trip, Gravell found out that the beach had been closed due to the fact that a 70-year-old WWII mine had washed ashore. Because it was still active, a bomb squad had to come and retrieve it.

Luckily, no one was injured and Gravell says that her family will “think twice before messing with something like that in the future.”
