School dress codes have especially been a controversial topic in recent news. From the Virginia high school that targeted females from wearing short gym shorts on campus, to the high schooler that was sent home for wearing an “inappropriate length skirt,” news of schools buckling down on their dress code no longer surprise us, but they do continue to stir up controversy amongst parents.
Amanda Best Barbier knows what it feels like to have her daughter targeted for “violating” her school’s dress code and has invited the community to share their thoughts.
Barbier’s teenage daughter got ready and headed to school just like any other morning. All seemed normal until Mom received a phone call from the school about her daughter’s choice of dress. When she arrived, she was met with the principal and assistant principal who had an issue about the length of her daughter’s dress.

Left in confusion, Mom took her issue to social media, asking the community to share their thoughts.
Barbier writes, “I just had to go to my daughter’s high school (JB Pennington) because they said her clothes was not school appropriate. I ask while speaking to both principal and assistant principal to measure this while I was standing in the room with them and they both REFUSED!”
She adds, “Everyone please share and comment your thoughts. Whatever you want to say it’s an open floor. I made this post public so I’m asking all of my friends please share!”
Mom added in the comments later of how the incident occurred.
Many people on Facebook shared their thoughts and supported with Mom, saying, “What is wrong with what she is wearing?” and “I’m a strong believer in school dress code. But this principle [sic] is wrong.”
What are your thoughts? Do you think what she was wearing was inappropriate?
