On Saturday, April 25, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, sending the country into a state of shock as over 1,800 people and rescue teams are still searching through the rubble.
The earthquake not only left Nepal completely destroyed, laying helpless in mounds of debris, but also triggered avalanches on Mt. Everest. The avalanches have taken the lives of at least 18 others, making it the deadliest day the mountain has ever seen.
The 22-year-old German climber Jost Kobusch was able to capture terrifying footage of the avalanche that swept over the basecamp he was stationed at. He posted the video on YouTube with the description, “The ground was shaking from the earthquake and as soon as we saw people running we were running ourselves to save our lives.”
You can see in the video below the moment the climbers realize their safety is on the line. The ground begins to shake and suddenly, clouds of snow come barreling down the mountains toward the campsite. Urgency and fear fill the voices that can be heard on film, as panicked climbers run for cover.
This shocking footage is hard to watch, knowing the devastating impact the earthquake has left on millions of people.
As we pray for the families and loved ones in the Nepal area, please SHARE the love and pass it on.
