His Wife Is Headed To Mars. Here’s Why He Plans on Maintaining Their VERY Long Distance Relationship

What would you do if your spouse wanted to leave and never come back? Get divorced, right? Well, for every other couple, that would be the most common option. But what if your spouse still loved you and wanted to stay married?

In the case of Jason Stanford and Sonia Van Meter, that is exactly the case. Sonia does want to leave Jason — but she doesn’t want a divorce. She wants to go to Mars.

Despite being happily married and being the mother of two boys, Sonia is one of 100 people currently in the running to be chosen to go to Mars, thanks to the Mars One Project.

While many on the outside looking in don’t understand it — and have taken to vilifying Sonia — her husband, Jason, is standing beside her and honoring her wishes.

He claims that “marriage is not perfect, but you make it work” and is outspoken of the fact that though his wife is getting questioned for the possible leaving of her family, male candidates in a similar position are not. Sonia has stated that she would stay on Earth if her family demanded it, but they do not want to get in the way of her dreams.
