A girl’s father is one of the most influential people in her life, from infant to toddler, to teen to adult. The father-daughter dance at weddings offers brides and their dads a chance to relive special memories they share.
One bride, who lost her father in the line of duty, got the most touching surprise when it was time for the special moment—his colleagues came out to fill his shoes on the special day.
Deputy Walter “Kent” Munell, Jr. was killed several years earlier after responding to a domestic dispute call. He had served 10 years with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department in Washington. The bride honored her father in the most heartfelt way by reserving a seat for him at the wedding.

Six years after his death, his daughter, Kirsten, married the man of her dreams, and four deputies came out to make sure Kirsten’s wedding was extra special.
When the time came for the father-daughter dance, the bride felt a tap on her shoulder. Someone was asking to cut in. Actually, it was an entire line of her dad’s former colleagues, wanting to make the night even more special. They each took turns dancing with Kirsten during the traditional father-daughter dance.
