Easy DIY Pop Tarts

Erika Carter

Very few American children have never eaten a pop tart pastry.

The warm, gooey breakfast food is a favorite for children all over the world.

Although some parents question the strange ingredients on the back of the box, many other parents don’t hesitate to feed the preservative filled snack to their children.

Instead of worrying about those hard to pronounce ingredients, grab a few ingredients from your cupboard and just make your own! This pop tart recipe includes three different variations guaranteed to hit the spot!

2 2/3 Cup of plain flour

3/4 Cup of cold, cubed butter

2 Tablespoons of icing sugar

2 Egg yolks

4 Tablespoons of water

Pinch of salt

Put your flour, icing sugar and salt in a bowl and rub in the butter until your mixture looks like bread crumbs. Add egg yolks and water and mix until a dough forms. Refrigerate your dough in plastic wrap for about 30 minutes.

Using a rolling pin, roll your dough out on a floured surface. Use a knife to cut your dough into 3in x 4in retables. Mix one egg yolk with water and use a pastry brush to brush your pastry. Spoon your filling choice onto one of the pastries and cover with the other one. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 22-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Frosting Ingredients:

1/4 Cup of icing sugar

1/2 Teaspoon of vanilla extract

Water

These pop tarts are so versatile that you can fill them and top them with just about anything! Your kids are going to love this new version of pop tarts so much that they’ll never ask for anything else for breakfast!
