24-year-old Ashley Bridges is experiencing something very few most people could only imagine, making the ultimate sacrifice as a mother.

She was diagnosed with bone cancer 10 weeks into her pregnancy. Doctor’s recommended she start chemotherapy immediately, but that ultimately meant she terminate her unborn baby. Unable to kill her baby, Ashley made the difficult decision to delay chemo and at a result, the cancer spread. At a time when Ashley Bridges should be rejoicing the birth of her newborn baby, she was instead undergoing the worst possible scenario a mother could endure. After delivering her newborn daughter Paisley, she was given less than a year to live.

“She’s my little sunshine in this nightmare,” Ashley says as she holds her newborn baby in her arms. Her friends and family are calling her a real-life superhero, but they have never second guessed her decision to ultimately save her baby’s life over her own. Also, a mother of a 6-year-old son and a military wife, Ashley is hopeful that everything will turn out for the best, saying “Everything happens for a reason.”
